Anna M. "Annie" Evanish, 84, Enjoyed baking, crocheting, and dancing to polka music
Anna M. "Annie" Evanish, (nee Simashkevich), age 84, of Amherst Township, died Tuesday April 13, 2004 at Golden Acres Nursing Home in Amherst following an illness of one month.Mrs. Evanish was born January 7, 1920 in South Amherst and had been a resident of Lorain County for her entire life.
She was Valedictorian of the 1938 graduating class of South Amherst High School and went on to attend the Lorain School of Business. She was employed as a sales associate for Seymour's Jewelers which was formerly located on Broadway Avenue in Lorain, and later as a secretary in the engineering department of U.S. Steel Corporation's Lorain Works.
She was a parishioner of Ss. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Lorain and a member of Buckeye Lodge # 60 of the A.M.L.A. Her interests included canning, baking, crocheting, dancing to polka music, attending garage sales, and taking Sunday afternoon drives.
She is survived by her husband of fifty-seven years: Gilbert M. Evanish, Sr.; sons: Gilbert M. Evanish, Jr. residing in Denver, Colorado, and Glenn Alan Evanish of Tokyo, Japan; daughter: Janice Klesta of Elyria; five grandchildren; brothers: Peter Simashkevich of Amherst and John Sims of Toledo; and by sisters: Helen Harris of South Amherst, Louise Tyler of Elyria, and Betty Dunlap of Kirtland.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Wasil and Mary (nee Pohuda) Simashkevich; by brothers: Michael and Frank Simashkevich, and Jacob Sims; and by sisters: Lena Soroka and Eleanor Kozel.
Visitation will be Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at 10:00 a.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel -3224 Broadway - Lorain. A funeral mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. in Ss. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church; 1705 East 31st Street in Lorain. The Reverend Paul Krajnik, pastor of the parish will officiate.
Entombment will follow in the Resurrection Mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery Lorain.
