Ray C. Kepner, 90, Active in Lorain Lions Club, worked in federal govt. for 34 years
Ray C. Kepner, 90 of Lorain died on Saturday, April 10, 2004, at Community Health Partners Hospital & Surgical Center West in Lorain, OH after a very brief illness.Mr. Kepner was born on July 28, 1913, in Akron, OH and lived in Lorain since 1960. He was a graduate of Central High School in Akron. A veteran of the US Army Air Corps: he served during World War II with the 6th Air Corp.
He was a member of the Lorain Lions Club, a life member of the Board of Trustees of the Senior Citizens Association of Lorain County and had served as president of the Advisory Council for the Lorain County Nutrition Program.
Mr. Kepner served 34 years working for the federal government. After his military obligation, he began working with the Veterans Administration and then transferred to the Social security Administration. He had been assigned as a clerk in Kalamazoo, MI, promoted to field representative, assigned to Steubenville, Ohio, then to Detroit Michigan as an assistant manager. He then opened the new social security office in New Philadelphia and then in 1960 was transferred to Lorain to manage the Social Security office here. He retired in 1979.
He was an avid bowler and golfer.
Mr. Kepner is survived by three nieces, Patricia McIntyre, Mary McIntyre both of Akron, Holly Millican of Norton, a brother-in-law John McIntyre of Akron and a sister-in-law Agnes Bondurant of Sarasota, FL. He is preceded in death by his wife Rita M. (nee McIntyre) Kepner in 1996, his parents Royal Blake and Genetta Pearl (nee Monn) Kepner, and a sister Mary Blanche Kepner.
Friends may call at Schwartz Spence Boyer & Cool Home for Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street Lorain, OH, on Wednesday, April 14, 2004, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Lorain Lions Club will hold a memorial service at 7:15 p.m. Funeral services will be held on April 15, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. in Schwartz Spence Boyer & Cool Home for Funerals in Lorain, OH, with Rev. Dr. Ralph Krupp, deacon at the Church Of St. Peter, officiating. Ray C. Kepner will be buried at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain with full military burial honors provided by the VFW Post 451.
The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Lorain Lions Club, c/o the funeral home.
