Andrew Columbus Jr., 78, WWII Veteran
Mr. Andrew Columbus Jr., age 78, of Penfield Township, Ohio, died Thursday, April 8, 2004, at The Northridge Health Center in North Ridgeville, Ohio after a long illness.He was born Sunday, August 23, 1925, in Columbia Station, Ohio and lived there 40 years before moving to Penfield.
Andrew was a member of Assumption Catholic Church for many years. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Bunker Hill as an Oiler. He was employed by Berea Bus Lines for 17 years, then the Dept. of Veteran Affairs.
Mr. Columbus enjoyed woodworking, amateur wine making. He was a member of Medina Co. Grange and a member of Well Help.
He is survived by his wife: Marylou to whom he has been married to for 51 years; sons: Andrew E. Columbus III of Litchfield Township, Ohio and Richard L. Columbus of Chatham Township., Ohio; daughter: Mary M. Gallagher of Manassas, Va.; and 6 grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Andrew and Julianna Columbus; sisters:
Julie Pass, Rose Simons, Elizabeth Columbus, Margaret Follette, and Katherine Jones; and grandsons: Dustin Columbus & Patrick Gallagher.
Private family services were held Monday April 12 and burial was in Columbia
Station Cemetery, Columbia Twp. A memorial mass will be held and announced
at a later date.
