Maria Leibas, 90, Enjoyed working in her garden
Maria Leibas (nee Hernandez) 90 of Lorain died Saturday, April 03, 2004 in Lorain Manor Nursing Home, Lorain following a lengthy illness.She was born April 19, 1913 in Rockdale, Texas. She was a Lorain resident for 61 years coming from Malakoff, Texas in 1943.
Mrs. Leibas retired from Harvest House Cafeteria in 1974. She worked there for 10 years. She also worked in the Dietary Department of Anchor Lodge Nursing Home, Lorain.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain and attended St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Lorain. She was also a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Society and the Mexican American Citizens Club both of Lorain. Mrs. Leibas enjoyed working in her garden.
Among the survivors are her daughters Susan Dominguez and Marie Leibas both of Lorain; sons Florentino, Gene, Joe and Tony Leibas all of Lorain; 18 Grandchildren, 28 Great Grandchildren and a sister Frances Contreras of Dallas, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband Silberio Leibas of 55 years in 1992; parents Francisco and Florencia (nee Ruiz) Hernandez; brothers Ignacio and Pedro Hernandez.
Friends may call Monday 4-8 p.m. at the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain, Ohio.
Funeral services will be Tuesday with closing prayers at the funeral home at 8:45 a.m. followed by Mass of the Resurrection at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, South Lorain. Reverend, Father William A. Thaden, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
