Clara M. Slack, 93, Served as a cook for St. Joseph Church, Amherst
Clara Margaret Slack (nee Bach), 93 years of age, and a resident of Amherst passed away, March 27, 2004 at Amherst Manor Nursing Home following a lingering illness.Born June 14, 1910 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, she was raised in and lived nearly her whole life in Amherst.
Clara was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst where she served the rectory and parish for many years assisting as a cook. She was a member of the Amherst American Legion Post 118 Ladies Auxiliary where she served as a president.
Survivors include sons; Richard Slack of Sheffield Lake, Ohio and Raymond Slack of Amherst; daughter Shirley Trottier of Amherst, nine grandchildren and twenty one great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Alan Slack in 1978 and by brothers, Joseph, Leo, Gilbert and John Bach and by sisters, Emma Schmitz, Magdalen Simon and Rita Puskas and by parents, John and Mary Bach (nee Meyers).
Friends may call Tuesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at beginning with prayers at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by mass at 12:00 p.m. from Saint Joseph Catholic Church. The Rev. Lawrence Martello, pastor of Saint Joseph Catholic Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Brownhelm Cemetery in Brownhelm Township.
