Frank Joseph Jasinski, 83, U.S. Army Veteran

Photo of Frank Joseph Jasinski Frank Joseph Jasinski, age 83, of Sandusky died Saturday, March 20, 2004 at the Ohio Veteran’s Home in Sandusky.

He was born February 26, 1921 in Lorain where he lived much of his life. He had lived in Sandusky at the Ohio Veteran’s Home for the past 3 years. He had also lived in Cortland, Ohio for a short time.

Frank attended Nativity and Hawthorne Schools in Lorain and entered the US Army in 1943. While in the service, he served as a guard for General Eisenhower while in Europe, fighting with the Bradley’s 526 in the Battle of the Bulge, killing German paratroopers that came after Eisenhower. He also served in the battles and campaigns in Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe. He received the Good Conduct Medal, American Theatre Service Medal, and European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars.

Mr. Jasinski worked as a boiler operator and an electrical engineer for the Ohio Edison Company until his retirement. He was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Lorain, Polish American Citizens Club, United Polish Club, and the Italian Americans Veteran’s Club, all in Lorain.

He is survived by his 2nd wife: June Jasinski of Cortland, Ohio; sons: Gerald F. of Vermilion, and Don W. of Wilmington; step-daughters: Gayle Ruddy of Cortland, and Judy Monos of Phoenix, Arizona; 9 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; and 2 step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his 1st wife: Thirza Jean (nee Foisy) in 1970; parents: Andrew and Anna (nee Wasnak) Jasinski; sisters: Catherine Barnhart, Stephanie, and Rose Jasinski; and brothers: Andrew, John, Dominic, and Joseph.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 23, 2004 from 11 a.m. until time of a prayer service at 12:30 p.m. at the Dombrowski-Volak-Riddle Funeral Home; 1939 Oberlin Ave, Lorain. A mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church; W. 15th and Lexington Avenues, Lorain. The Rev. Robert J. Glepko, pastor, will be the celebrant.

Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, with Military Honors conducted by the Lorain VFW Post 451.
