Bacil ''Curley'' E. Strader, 69, 1990 Ford retiree, enjoyed hunting

Basil "Curley" E. Strader, 69 years of age, and a resident of Amherst passed away March 13, 2004 at his home following a one year illness.

He was born February 24, 1935, in Canaan, West Virginia and has been a resident of Amherst for the past forty nine years.


Basil worked for the Ford Motor Corp. in Lorain for thirty one years retiring in 1990 from the tack off division in the paint department. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in his yard.

Survivors include his wife of forty seven years, Bonnie Louise (Fitzgerald), son Clyde "Chuck" Strader of Norwalk and daughter Debbie Smith of Amherst, four grandchildren, one step grandson and four great grandchildren, four brothers, Clark Strader, twin brother Macil Strader, and Floyd Bennett of South Amherst and Ray Strader of Grafton, West Virginia, sisters, Florence Cesaro of Wintersville, Ohio, Mary Anderson of Buckhannon, West Virginia and Maude Sinclair of Florida.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Ralph Strader and Clifford Bennett and by sisters, Opal Sterrett and Ruth Miller and by parents, David and Lina Strader-Bennett (nee Riley).

Friends may call Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst where funeral services will be held Thursday at 12:00 p.m. Friend of the family, Greg Ison will officiate. Burial will be in Crownhill Cemetery in Amherst, Ohio.
