Joe Karnas, 89, Owned and operated Karnas Plumbing
Joe Karnas, age 89, of Avon Lake, passed away Sunday, March 7, 2004 at Community Health Partners West.He was born March 2, 1915 in Cleveland and had lived in the Avon Lake area most of his life, coming from Cleveland.
Mr. Karnas was the owner and operator of Karnas Plumbing and Heating in Sheffield Lake and Avon Lake. He retired from the business in 1968 after 25 years of service. He also owned Mechanical Reef Contracting, in which he holds a patent for an offshore erosion control unit.
Mr. Karnas was a member of the National Inventors Association and the National Rifleman’s Association. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and piloting airplanes in his younger days.
Surviving him is his son Michael Karnas of Florida, daughters Susan Snyder of Delaware, Ohio and Judy Shover of Columbus, Ohio, many grand and great grandchildren, sisters Mary Karnas of Parma and Jane Macuga of Middleburg Heights.
He was preceded in death by his wife Eileen (nee Ramsey) Karnas in 2000, son James Karnas, two grandsons Richard Loft (an infant) and Rich Loft, daughters Barbara Zseberan, and Kathy Vanek, and parents Michael and Mary (Popiel) Karnas.
Visitation will be held Friday from 12:00 Noon until time of service at 1:00 p.m. at Avon United Methodist Church, 37711 Detroit Rd., Avon, Ohio. Burial will be in Obetz Cemetery in Columbus, Ohio. The Reichlin-Cooley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
