Theodore M. Koler, 69, U.S. Army Veteran, liked to travel

Theodore M. Koler, age 69, of Elyria, died Friday March 5, 2004 at Amherst Manor Nursing Home following a brief illness.

He was born February 1, 1935 in Lorain and was a 1953 graduate of Lorain High School.

He was a veteran of the United States Army serving periods of enlistment spanning the Korean Conflict through the Cuban Missile Crisis.

He later embarked on an apprenticeship with Plumber's & Pipefitter's Local # 42 in Norwalk; he ultimately achieved journeyman status and served the local for over forty years. He retired in the year 2000. Mr. Koler was also a member of Alcoholics Anonymous, and had served as a former officer and member of the Lorain Romanian Club.

His interests included golf, fishing, and travel.

Survivors include his sons: Theodore M. Koler, Jr. residing in Orlando, Florida, David A. Koler of North Royalton, Ohio, and Alex C. Koler of Wakeman, and a sister: Saundra Rogers of Lorain.

He was preceded in death by his father Alex in 1969, by his mother: Julia (nee Daraby) in 1991, and many aunts and uncles.

The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 p.m. until time of services at 8:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Reverend Mr. John Slatcoff, permanent Deacon of Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township will officiate. Private family burial services will be conducted at a later date,

The family suggests memorials in his memory to Compass House, 1400 Lexington Avenue - Lorain, Ohio 44052 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
