Roy G. Moyer, 77, Ohio Edison Retiree, WWII Veteran

Roy Gilbert Moyer, 77 years of age, and a resident of Vermilion, passed away Monday, November 17, 2003 at Community Health Partners Emergency Room following a sudden illness.

Born April 13, 1926 in Lodi, Ohio, he was raised in Elyria and graduated from Elyria High School with the class of 1944. Elyria was his home until moving to Vermilion 1988.

He served in the US Navy during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Cat Fish submarine in the Pacific Theater. He was employed by Ohio Edison for forty years retiring in 1986 from the marketing department. He was a member of the Elyria Lions Club, the Elyria and Vermilion Kiwanis Club, the Vermilion AMVETS Post 22, and the Lorain Rotary Club. Roy was also a fifty-one year member of King Solomon’s Masonic Lodge #56. He attended the Birmingham United Methodist Church and was active with helping maintain the church with fund raising. He enjoyed woodworking. Roy and his family enjoyed vacationing on Kelley’s Island in cottage that he and his family built together.

Survivors include his wife of seventeen years Gladys Moyer (nee Woodings), his sons Ralph Moyer of Tempe, Arizona and James Moyer of Elyria, his daughters Karen Pryce of Scottsdale, Arizona and Carol Gow of Wellington, eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and his brothers Charles Moyer of Arkansas and Ralph Moyer of Elyria.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of thirty-eight years, Bernice S. Moyer (nee Kosiorek) in 1984, his parents Wayne and Myrtle Moyer (nee Lance) and his sister Barbara Schnitzler.

A private graveside committal service will be held by the family at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township. A memorial service will be held Friday at 11:30 a.m. at Birmingham United Methodist Church, 15018 South Street, Birmingham with the Rev. J. Dennis Henkle, pastor, officiating.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 182039 Dept. 013, Columbus, Ohio 43218-2039 or to the Birmingham United Methodist Church, 15018 South Street, Birmingham, Ohio 44816.
