Eva May Faris, 93, Enjoyed sewing, painting, and decorating

Photo of Eva May Faris Eva May Faris, 93, (nee Orcutt) of Lorain died on Saturday, August 16, 2003 at Anchor Lodge Nursing Home in Lorain, Ohio following a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Faris was born on January 6, 1910 in Oakes, North Dakota. She spent her childhood in North Dakota and Minnesota. She graduated from Breckonridge Minnesota High School in 1928. She continued her education at North Dakota State College of Science receiving a Liberal Arts degree in 1930. She moved to Lorain following graduation. She worked at the Montgomery Ward Store until it's closing. On July 27, 1933 she was married and moved to Amherst for 7 years. While living in Amherst, she attended the Congregational Church of Christ. Mrs. Faris was a member of the Mary Martha and Martha Tyson Circles for 58 years. In 1941, she and her husband moved back into Lorain and became members of the First Congregational Church in Lorain. She and her husband helped organize the Church's first Cub Scout group, Pack # 30 in 1945. She served for three years as a den mother. She earned several local and district awards for scouting leadership. She had been active with the Irving School PTA for 9 years. Mrs. Faris was a member of the Christian Fellowship Supper Club, The Lakeland Women's Club and the Elyria Camera Club. She enjoyed sewing, interior painting, decorating and refinishing. She and her husband especially enjoyed 18 years wintering in Bradenton, FL.

Mrs. Faris is survived by her husband, with whom she had just celebrated her 70th anniversary on July 27, Wood P. Faris. She is also survived by twin sons Ronald Faris of Westlake and Thomas Faris of Lorain, 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, sister Edith Orcutt Hansen of Norman, Oklahoma and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Tilda (nee Jorgenson) Orcutt, sisters Iris Orcutt Downing, Venora Orcutt, and brothers Bert and Ronald Orcutt.

Friends may call at Schwartz Spence Boyer & Cool Home for Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, Ohio, on Wednesday, August 20, 2003 from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral at 1:00 p.m.. Rev. Carl J. Richter, senior pastor at First Congregational Church will officiate.
Eva May Faris will be buried at Elmwood Cemetery in Lorain, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church, 423 Washington Street, Lorain, Ohio 44052.
