Mindia Barley, 96, Loved being a mother and wife, enjoyed bingo
Mindia Barley (nee Freeman), 96 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Saturday afternoon, March 1, 2003 at Amherst Manor Nursing Home, following a brief illness. She was born January 6, 1907 in Manchester, KY. Where she lived and was raised until age 7 moving to Wellsville, Ohio.Mrs. Barley has made her home in South Amherst/Amherst area for the past 56 years. Mindia loved being a mother and a wife. In later years she enjoyed playing bingo.
Survivors include her sons, Cecil M. Barley of Wellsville, OH and Chester A. Barley of Amherst, OH, 3 daughters; Letha Hammond and Dolly Hammond both of South Amherst and Donna Abbott of Oberlin, OH, 16 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 14 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas G. Barley in 1968 after forty four years of marriage and by her son, Thomas G. Barley, Jr. in 1998; her parents Alex and Alabam Freeman (nee Edwards), and by brothers Chester, Lidge, Victore, Robert, and Isaac, sisters; Lizzie Jane Schmidt, Linda Walton, Lucy Smith, Gracey Calhoun, and Dora Schmidt.
Friends may call Tuesday, March 4, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:00 pm from the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst, Ohio.
