Betty Bakos, 77, Registered Nurse
Mary E. "Betty" Bakos (nee Stoyka), 77, of Lorain, died Thursday February 27, 2003 at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain after a long illness.She was born September 28, 1925 in Pittsfield, Ohio and had resided in Lorain since 1944.
Mrs. Bakos worked at St. Joseph Hospital in Lorain as a registered nurse for 32 years retiring in 1982.
She was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain, the National Council of Catholic Women, the Golden Agers and AARP. She enjoyed crafts and crocheting Afghans.
She is survived by her sons: Richard Bakos of Lorain and Robert Bakos of Vermilion; 2 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Ignatius Bakos in 1981, parents John Stoyka in 1966 and Victoria Stoyka (nee Barsony) in 1968, brothers Martin Fields in action during WWII, Carl Fields in 1982, Albert Fields in 2000 and Julius Stoyka in 2002 and sister Helene Orley in 2000.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where funeral services will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. at the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. The Rev. David Woost, associate pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
