John C. Freeman, 65, US Army Veteran

John C. Freeman - 65 of Wakeman, formerly of Avon Lake, passed away, Monday, February 24 at the Cleveland Clinic following a lengthy illness. Mr. Freeman was born April 2, 1937 in Cleveland and had lived in Avon Lake for 27 years prior to moving to Wakeman in 1994.

Mr. Freeman worked as a systems analyst for The East Ohio Gas Company for 39 years, retiring in 1995. He served in the US Army during the late 1950's and was stationed at Ft. Mead, Maryland. He was a member of the Avon Lake Presbyterian Church, where he was a member of the choir and served as a deacon. Mr. Freeman was also an advisor for Junior Achievement in Rocky River for 15 years, he was a member of the Association for Systems Management, the Greater Cleveland Wooden Boat Club and AmVets, Post 22, Vermilion. He was an avid slot car racer and enjoyed working with computers, woodworking, boating and motor home camping.

Besides his wife, Gail (nee Chereson) whom he married, August 29, 1964, Mr. Freeman is survived by a daughter Donna Komar of Brunswick and a brother Richard A. Freeman of Sheffield Lake. Other survivors include two grandsons, Kyle and Jacob. He is preceded in death by his parents, John E. and Virginia (nee Terrell) Freeman.

Friends may call at the Busch-Burmeister Family Chapel, 163 Avon-Belden Rd., Avon Lake, from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m., Thursday, February 27. Funeral services will be in the Avon Lake Presbyterian Church, 32340 Electric Blvd., Avon Lake, Friday, February 28 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Thomas C. Robinson of the Church will officiate. Cremation by Busch Crematory. Memorials may be forwarded to the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge, 11432 Mayfield Rd., Cleveland 44106.
