S.W. "Pinky" "Hank" Delaney, 78, WWII Veteran, and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church

S.W. "Pinky" "Hank" Delaney, 78 years of age, and a resident of Lorain, passed away February 13, 2003 at New Life Hospice Residential Center of Lorain following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born November 14, 1924 in Oberlin. He was raised in Lorain and graduated from Clearview High School in the class of 1942. He was a lifetime resident of Lorain.

Hank worked for U.S. Steel retiring after 40 years in 1982 as an instrument repairman. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II in the European Theater. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, Lorain. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #451 in Lorain.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn (nee Kozopas) Delaney; his son, Warran Delaney of Metropolis, IL; his step-sons, Marlin Linger of Columbus, OH and Roger Linger of Anchorage, Alaska; his daughters; Cheryl Nimon and Lucy McGee, both of Lorain; and his step-daughter, Leslie Stone of Lorain; four grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son James P. Delaney during the Vietnam War; by his brother, Ross Delaney in 1991, by his sister, Vesta Delaney in 1941 and by his parents Sherbert and Lucille (nee Gleason) Delaney.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, February 18, 2003 at 11:00 am from Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst, with the Rev. Jack Ison, pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church, Lorain, as the officiate. Military Honors will be performed by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Fellowship Baptist Church, 5046 Broadway Ave., Lorain, 44052 or to New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph; 5255 N. Abbe Rd., Elyria, OH 44035.

Arrangements are being handled by Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst.
