Jean M. Lawless, 95, Lifelong Vermilion Resident
Jean M. Lawless, age 95, died Tuesday, February 11, 2003 at Anchor Lodge Retirement Village in Lorain following a short illness.She was born on January 30, 1908 in Vermilion, Ohio where she had lived all of her life.
She was a graduate of Vermilion High School Class of 1926, Denison University Class of 1930 and the Western Reserve University School of Library Science Class of 1939. She made her life as a Librarian, working for the Vermilion Public Library from 1935-1937. She joined the Lorain Public Library as children's librarian in 1938 and was also the branch librarian at the Pennfield branch until 1942 and at the South branch until 1947. In 1947 she was appointed the Children's Librarian at the Main Library Branch and in 1954 became the Head Children's Librarian for the Lorain Public Library System, a position she held until her retirement in 1971.
She was a member of the United Church of Christ Congregational in Vermilion, a charter member of the Vermilion College Club and a member of the Friends of Harbourtown. She also held memberships at the Great Lakes Historical Society, the Friends of Ritter Public Library and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Miles E. and Lottie M. Lawless.
Services will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
