Inocencio "Chencho" Melendez Jr., 58, Enjoyed flamenco dancing, church activities, and dominoes
Inocencio "Chencho" Melendez Jr., age 58, of New Port Richey, Florida, formerly of Lorain, died on Saturday, February 8, 2003 at his residence in Florida, while under the care of Hernando-Paslo Hospice. He was born on October 21, 1944 in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico. Resided in Lorain since 1969, coming here from Rochester, New York. He moved to Florida in 2001.He was employed as a sweeper driver at the Brookpark Ford Motor Company for 26 years, retiring in 1994. Prior to this he was a machine operator at Pepsi Cola Company.
Inocenico was a member of Principe De Paz Lutheran Church, Lorain, where he was very active in the church activities. He was also the chairman of the tri-plant union group at Ford and the United AutoWorkers Union Local #1250.
He enjoyed flamenco dancing, church activities, dominoes, mechanics and gardening.
He is survived by his wife: Lourdes Santos, of Florida, son: Leon Stone, of Lorain, daughters: Regina and Ruth Melendez, both of Lorain, 6 grandchildren, brothers: Ramon Melendez, of Fresno, California, Eugenio "Geno" Melendez, of Lorain, Claudio Melendez, of Yabucoa, Puerto Rico, sisters: Carmen Melendez, of Fresno, CA, Cristina Melendez, Benita "Alicia" Morales, Maria Lazu, Carmen Z. Melendez and Elvira Melendez, all of Yabucoa, Puerto Rico, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Inocencio Melendez and Dolores Vega Ortiz, grandson: Marcos Leon in 1999, and brother, Dominico Melendez.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 14, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 at Principe De Paz Lutheran Church, 607 E. 31st Street, Lorain. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2003 at Principe De Paz Lutheran Church at 11:00 am. Rev. Juan Gonzalez, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon. The Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain, is handling all the arrangements.
