Alice M. Sample, 74, Member of St. Joseph Church, Avon Lake

Alice M. Sample (nee Sykes), 74, of Avon Lake passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2003 at St. John & Westshore Hospital, Westlake. She was born June 26, 1928 in Cleveland, was raised in Lakewood where she graduated from High School, and lived in Avon Lake most of her life.

Before retiring Mrs. Sample was employed as a secretary for the Avon Lake Board of Education for 12 years. Alice was also a member of St. Joseph Church, Avon Lake.

Mrs. Sample is survived by her husband of 25 years, Edward. She is also survived by two sons, Donald Nowak, Jr. of Beaver Creek, Ohio; Ronald Nowak of Lakewood; a daughter, Alison McCarthy of Lakewood; three step-daughters, Jill Miskell of Avon Lake, Jennifer Spears of Chillicothe and Elizabeth Zader of Euclid; thirteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren and a sister, Joanne Carpenter of Bay Village. She was preceded in death by her parents, William E. and Anne (nee Batory) Sykes and a grandson, Edward "Eddie" Johnson.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 32929 Lake Rd., Avon Lake on Saturday February 8, 2003 at 9:30 am. Fr. Timothy J. O'Connor, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Avon. In lieu of flowers memorials may be forwarded to St. Joseph Church, 32929 Lake Rd., Avon Lake, OH 44012. Arrangements are being handled by the Busch-Burmeister Family Chapel, 163 Avon-Belden Rd., Avon Lake.
