Ernesto "Ernie" Rosado Cortez, 74 of Lorain died Saturday, January 25, 2003 in his home following a brief illness. He was born April 23, 1928 in Barceloneta, Puerto Rico. He came to Lorain in 1948.
He served as a Sergeant in the Army in the Korean War, earning a Purple Heart.
Mr. Cortez retired as a foreman in Elyria Foundry, Elyria, retiring in 1991, after working there for 17 years. He also worked as a foreman for the Lake Terminal Railroad, Lorain; He worked there for 22 years.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain. He coached and was an umpire for youth baseball in South Lorain. He enjoyed nature and nature documentaries.
Among the survivors is his wife of 15 years Millie Esteras (nee Delgado); sons Bobby Rosado of Huston, Texas and Ernie Rosado of Atlanta, Georgia; step sons William Ortiz and Jorge Esteras both of Lorain and Pedro Esteras of Cleveland; Daughters Linda Soto (nee Rosado) of Lorain and Yolanda Vrtachnik of Atlanta, Georgia and step daughter Georgine Ortiz of Lorain; 11 Grandchildren; brothers Luis Rosado of Indiana, Hector Rosado of Florida, William Rosado of New Jersey, Felix Rosado of Ohio and Norberto Rosado of St. Croix and a sister Lydia Melendez of Louisiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents Angel Rosado and Juana Cortez, Sisters Anna Varga, and Mary and Norma Rosado.
Friends may call Tuesday January 28, 2003 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, Lorain, Ohio. Friends may also call Wednesday 8:30 AM until time of 9:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Chapel 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. The Reverend William A. Thaden, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. Where the Disabled American Veterans, Louis Paul Proy, Chapter 20, Lorain will conduct military honors.
