Ramon Garcia, 76, Active in Lorain Bowling Association

Photo of Ramon Garcia Ramon "Ray" Garcia, 76, of Lorain, died Sunday January 19, 2003 at the Cleveland Clinic after a one-year illness. He was born May 18, 1926 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

Mr. Garcia was a 1945 graduate of Lorain High School. He served with the US Air Force form 1946-1949 as a sergeant in the 1900th AACS Squadron. He attended Kent State University from 1950-1952.

Mr. Garcia worked as a quality control inspector at the Nordson Corporation in Amherst for 26 years retiring in 1988.

He was a member of St. John Catholic Church, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 and a past member of the Mexican American Citizens Club, of Lorain. He volunteered as a tutor with the Project Lite Literacy program at the Lorain Public Library.

Mr. Garcia was a member of the Lorain Bowling Association for over 30 years and served as its president in 1970. He was also president of the Junior Bowling Association in 1969. He was elected into the Lorain Bowling Association Hall-of-Fame in 1985. In 1991 at the age of 67 he threw an 800 series and also has a 300 game to his credit.

He enjoyed bible study and activities with his granddaughters.

He is survived by is wife of 43 years Margaret Garcia (nee Cornejo); son Gilbert Garcia of Lorain; 4 granddaughters; sisters: Theresa Delgado of Lorain, AnnaMaria Gere of Sheffield Lake and Estella Garcia of Elyria; brothers Arturo Garcia of Lorain and Ruben Garcia of Avon. He was preceded in death by his son Michael Garcia and brothers Rodolfo and John Garcia.

The family will receive friends Wednesday January 22, 2003 from 3-5 and 7-9 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral prayer services will be held Thursday at 9:30 am followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 am at St. John Catholic Church, 2043 Homewood Dr., Lorain. The Rev. Thomas Smith, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 of Lorain will conduct military honors.
