Joseph Maffei, 83, Served with Italian Navy during WWII

Mr. Maffei served with the Italian Navy during World War II and was a prisoner of war for seven years in South Africa.
He worked at the Lorain Ford Assembly Plant on the assembly line and then in maintenance retiring in 1981 after 24 years.
Mr. Maffei was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, sailing, gardening, building model ships, and reading, especially classic literature.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years Jennie Maffei (nee Raunisi); son George Maffei of Fairview Park; daughters: Melinda "Carmela" Caporassi of Westlake, Maria Maffei of Lorain, Josephine Mignosa of Lorain, Rosemary White of Lorain, and Janet Philblad of Lorain; 16 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Josephine Messina.
The family will receive friends Tuesday January 21, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be Wednesday January 22, 2003 at 12:30 pm in the funeral chapel followed by a funeral mass at 1:00 pm at the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Dave Woost, associate pastor of the Catholic Church of St. Peter, will officiate. Entombment will follow I the mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
