Manuel A. Santana, 78, Big fan of baseball
Manuel A. Santana "Tony Alvarez" 78 of Jamestown, New York, formerly of Lorain, died Saturday, January 18, 2003 in W. C. A. Hospital, Jamestown, New York following a brief illness.He was born December 25, 1924 in Quebradillas, Puerto Rico. He came to Lorain 1953. He lived here for 47 years before moving in 2000 to Jamestown, NY with his niece.
Mr. Santana worked as a farm hand and for Lorain Aluminum Co., Sheffield Village. He retired from United States Steel Co. Lorain-Cuyahoga Works, Lorain in 1986. He worked there for 20 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain; he was also a member of United Steel Workers, local 1104, Lorain and among the first members of the Puerto Rican Home, Lorain. He was a baseball fan.
Among the survivors is his brother Gilberto Alvarez of Bronx, NY, NY and a niece Irma "Micky" Marquez Lopez of Jamestown, New York. He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel Alvarez and Carmen Santana and a sister Carmen Bayamon, Puerto Rico.
Friends may call Tuesday 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, Lorain, Ohio. Funeral service will be Wednesday at 10:00AM in the funeral home. Rev. Mr. Jose Flores, Deacon of Sacred Heart, Lorain will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
