Hershel Lee King, 74, Enjoyed fishing, playing cards, lawn mower repair, and being with his family

Hershel Lee King, 74 years of age, and a resident of Amherst Township, Elyria, passed away Thursday, January 16, 2003, at Lorain Community Health Partners following a lengthy illness. He was born on January 12, 1929 in Peytona, West Virginia. He attended Sherman High School in Seth, West Virginia, Boone County.

Mr. King worked in the coalmines of West Virginia and moved to Ohio in 1952. He worked at various factories in Lorain County and retired from Moen in 1988 where he was an automatic screw machine operator. He was a member of United Auto Workers Local 101. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, lawn mower repair, watching sports, flea markets, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his daughters, Mrs. Roy (Rebecca Ann) Hughett of Sheffield Township, Karen sue King of Elyria and Lisa Mari King at home; two granddaughters, two step granddaughters, two great granddaughters, two step great granddaughters, one great grandson, one step great grandson, son-in-law Roy and one great grandson-in-law; sisters Lorena Clemens of Huricane, West Virginia and Barbara Barker of Cross Lanes, West Virginia; brothers Virgil "Boots" of Peytona, West Virginia, Kenneth of Tullahoma, Tennessee, Franklin (Hank) of Inverness, Florida, and friend Charlotte Brunger of Elyria.

He is preceded in death by his wife of forty-seven years Inez Mae (nee Hunter) in 1997, father Ike in 1967 and mother Julia (nee Bradshaw) in 1971 and brother Jerry in 1990.

Friends will be received on Thursday from 10:00 am to the time of memorial services at 11:00 am from Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Burial will be at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township, at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made for the continued care of Mr. King's handicapped daughter Lisa Marie. An account has been set up in her name at Lorain National Bank.
