Evelyn Voss, Amherst School System Secretary
Evelyn Voss (nee: Davis), a resident of Waynesburg, Pennsylvania and former resident of Amherst, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2003 at her daughter's home in Pennsylvania following a brief battle with cancer.She was born in Lackawanna, New York and moved to Amherst in 1958.
She was employed by the Amherst School system for twenty years, retiring in 1987 as a secretary. She was a member of the Eastern Star Chapter #325; The Lorain Zipper club; Amherst Eagles Auxiliary #1442; the Amherst V.F.W. Auxiliary #1662; the Senior Citizens of Amherst; the Amherst Democratic Women's Club; and the Amherst Homemakers Club. She was also a member of St. Peters United Church of Christ in Amherst and enjoyed reading and painting.
Survivors include her daughters: Denise Reichert of Madison, Alabama, Darlene Miller of Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, and Donna Duplaga of Strongsville, Ohio; eleven grandchildren; her sisters, Lillian Podkulski of Hamburg, New York, Nora Krypel, of West Seneca, New York, Geraldine Simmons of Norfold, Virginia, and her brother, Lawrence Davis of Warwick, Rhode Island.
She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Robert Warren Voss on February 16, 1996; by her son, Glenn Voss, on January 23, 1999; by her parents Robert and Francis (nee: Hall) Davis; and by her sisters Phyllis Smolorek in 2000 and Ethel Elliott in 2001.
Friends may call Friday, January 17, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Avenue, Amherst. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 18th at 1:00 p.m. from St. Peter United Church of Christ; 582 Church Street, Amherst. The Rev. Gil Fauber, interim pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
