John Joseph Tassone, 59, U.S. Army Veteran, accomplished musician, and enjoyed chess
John Joseph Tassone, age 59, of Lorain, died Saturday January 11, 2003 at his home following an extended illness. He was born October 23, 1943 in Lorain and had been a life-long resident of the city. Mr. Tassone was a 1962 graduate of Lorain Admiral King High School and wet on to attend Kent State University. He was later accepted into the Baldwin-Wallace College Law Program.John was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Viet Nam Conflict from 1968-1970. He was attached to the 113th Infantry based in Fort Knox, Kentucky and also served as a drummer in the 113th Army Band. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal and the Rifle Sharpshooter's Badge.
He was an accomplished musician and a long-time member of the Lorain Musicians' Local. He performed with a number of local bands and combos including Ronnie and the Rainbows. He also provided drum lessons for aspiring amateur musicians throughout Lorain County.
He was formerly employed by the U.S. Steel's Lorain Works where he served in both the Coke Plant and Seamless Mills. He had previously been employed by a variety of small factories throughout the area.
His interests included playing chess, reading, and watching science fiction.
Survivors include a daughter: Suzanne Tassone of Lorain, brother: Robert Tassone and sister-in-law: Teresa of Lorain, niece: Christina, aunts: Florence Tassone, Carmen Monia, and Yolanda Tassone, dear family friend and caregiver: Jenny Dellipaola of Lorain along with several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Joseph and Albina (nee Gallotti) Tassone and a brother: Gerald.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday January 22nd, 2003 at 12:00 noon in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Road, Rittman, Ohio.
The family requests contributions to the John J. Tassone Memorial Fund in care of any branch of Lorain National Bank.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, Lorain.
