George B. Olexa, 82, WWII Veteran who loved to do fix-it-up projects

Thomas Michael Rooney, 74, of Avon, formerly of Cleveland, passed away, Thursday, January 9, 2003 at St. John West Shore Hospital, following a sudden illness. Mr. Rooney was born, July 8, 1928 in Cleveland and has lived in Avon since 1964.

Mr. Rooney worked as a Vehicle Foreman and Truck Mechanic for Ohio Bell, retiring in 1991 after 42 years of service. Following his retirement, he worked maintenance for the Avon Lake United Church of Christ for 12 years. He was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception church, Avon and the Pioneer of Ohio Bell. He enjoyed his grandchildren, gardening, sports, and helping people.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jane (nee Kane). Other survivors include his daughters; Elizabeth A. West (Karl) of Avon Lake; Jane Guggenbiller of Elyria; sons Thomas McDonough (Nelly) of Panama City, FL and Timothy Rooney (Colene) of Avon. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren. He was one of twelve children and was preceded in death by his parents, James and Loretta (nee Rowboat) Rooney and a great grandson, Jacob.

Friends may call at the Busch-Burmeister Family Chapel, 32000 Detroit Rd., Avon, where a memorial visitation will be held from 6-9 pm Sunday January 12, 2002. A memorial services will be held in the Avon Lake United Church of Christ, 32801 Electric Blvd., Avon Lake, Monday January 12, 2003 at 11:00 am. Rev. Kelly Peters, pastor, will officiate. Cremation by Busch Crematory. Memorials may be forwarded to the Avon Lake United Church of Christ, 32801 Electric Blvd., Avon Lake, OH 44012.
