Jay F. Carson, 68, Loved to Fish
Jay F. Carson, 68, of vermilion, accepted an invitation for an eternal fishing expedition after a lengthy illness on Friday, January 3, 2003 in New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, where he will be forever trolling for the walleye in God's Great pond. Can someone get the net!He was born July 11, 1934 in Zollarsville, PA, growing up in Bentleyville, PA. He has been a local are area resident since 1960 living in Elyria and S. Amherst and has been a Vermilion resident since 1972.
Mr. Carson graduated from Bentleyville High School in 1952 and then enlisted in the US Air Force. He served as an Air Traffic Controller in Canada and Florida achieving the rant of staff Sergeant. He was honorably discharged in 1956 and employed by the Oberlin Ohio Air traffic Control Center until 1959. For a brief period he owned and operated a Phillips 66 gas station in Elyria, Ohio. Jay then went to work for Fruehauf Trailer Assembly Plant in Avon Lake, where he became a journeyman Millwright. He later was employed by Bendix in Elyria, US Steel in Lorain, GM Brookpark, Lear Sigler and retired in 1997 from Crane of Elyria.
He was a member of the NRA and a Charter Member and Life Member of the North American Fishing Club. Mr. Carson especially enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Joyce M. (nee Kostal) Carson of Vermilion, son Jay F. Carson Jr. of Fort Wayne, IN; daughter Debbie Carlton of Abilene, TX, five grandchildren; four great grandchildren, and one sister, Elvira Brandt of Port Charlotte, FL.
He is preceded in death by his parents, J. Fred Jr. and Emma (nee Richards) Carson, and one grandchild, Adam Carlton in 1994.
Friends may call Monday January 13, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio where the Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military honors at 7:00 pm.
Services will be held a the Riddle Funeral Home, Tuesday January 14, 2003 at 11:00 am with the Rev. John Hood, Pastor of the Vermilion Evangelical and Reformed church, Vermilion, officiating. Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park, Huron.
