Edgar Ortiz, 47, Enjoyed car racing, motocycles, auto mechanics, fishing and hunting

Edgar Ortiz, age 47, of Elyria, was pronounced dead on January 2, 2003 by the coroner's office, from an apparent drowning.

Edgar was born January 23, 1955 in Coamo, Puerto Rico. He moved to Lorain in 1990, where prior to this he lived in Connecticut and Cleveland.

He was employed as a truck driver for Trans Continental Systems for 2 years. Prior to this he also was employed at Almira Tires from 1990-1997.

He enjoyed car racing, motocycles, auto mechanics, fishing and hunting.

He is survived by his mother: Margarita Ramos Torres, of Lorain, sons: Edgar Ortiz, Jr., of Conn., Edmar Daniel Ortiz, of NJ, daughters: Cindy Marrero, of Lorain, Denise Ortiz, of Conn., and Margarita Ortiz, of NJ, 3 grandchildren, brothers: Edwin "Chiqui" Manuel Ortiz, of Apopka, FL, Domingo "Tato" Ortiz, Jr., of Lorain, Eli Samuel Ortiz, of Coamo, PR, and sister: Aida Zayas, of Lorain.

He was preceded in death by his father: Domingo Ortiz in 1987 and brother: Enrique in 1948.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2003 at 6:00 p.m. at the Salvation Army, 2506 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Pastors Rosa Moya and Pastor Juan Moya, of the Lorain Salvation Army will officiate. Burial will be held at a later date in Puerto Rico. The Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain is handling the arrangements.
