Mary E. McMahan, 87, Served on the Avon Lake Library Board for 37 years

Mary E. McMahan "Betty" (nee Baehrens) 87, of Roseburg, Oregon passed away suddenly Monday December 30, 2002 at the Roseburg Health care Center. She was born April 18, 1915 in Canton, Ohio.

She was a 1934 graduate of McKinley High School in Canton and a 1935 graduate of Canton Actual Business College. During WWII she served as a Tech. Sgt. In the Women's Army Corp. She served in both Africa and Europe.

She had been a resident of Avon Lake for 49 years before moving to Alaska and Oregon. In Avon Lake she worked as a school bus driver for 14 years retiring in 1981. She also worked for the Avon Lake Public Library where she served on the Library board for 37 years. She was library treasurer for 11 years and she enjoyed tutoring reading to students.

She was a member of the Avon Lake Presbyterian church and a member of Church Women United. She was also a charter member of Lake Shore Women's Club. Her hobbies were needlepoint and reading.

She is survived by her two sons Robert T. McMahan of Krefeld, Germany and Grady A. McMahan of Roseburg, Oregon. She also has two grandsons Justin and Kirk. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas in 1990, her parents Walter and Florence and three brothers Robert, Richard, and Ned.

Private Graveside services will be Saturday January 4, at Ridgehill Memorial Park. A Memorial Service will follow at 11:30 am at the Avon Lake Presbyterian church, 32340 Electric Blvd. Conducted by the Rev. Thomas C. Robinson.
