Joseph E. Cooke, 69, Cleveland Browns Fan, and enjoyed working crossword puzzles

Joseph E. Cooke, 69, of Avon Lake, formerly of Cleveland, passed away suddenly at his home, Saturday, December 28, 2002. Mr. Cooke was born December 4, 1933 in Cleveland and has lived in Avon Lake since 1972.

Mr. Cooke worked for Cotter and Company, Westlake, as a stock worker, filling orders for True Value Hardware, retiring in 1996. He had also worked in the construction industry. He was a US Army Veteran, serving in Germany from 1956-1962. He was a member of the Construction Union, a Cleveland Browns Football Fan and enjoyed working crossword puzzles.

His wife, Susan P. (nee Degnan) whom he married in 1972, passed away in 1996. He is survived by sons, John Walsh (Debbie) of Coppell, TX, Thomas Walsh (Denise) of Avon Lake, Elizabeth Baldwin-Deetz (Greg) of Medina and Michelle Shilliday (Doug) of Avon Lake and 6 grandchildren. Besides his wife he was preceded in death by his parents, James and Laura (nee McLaughlin) Cooke and brothers James and Joseph.

Friends may call at the Busch-Burmeister Family Chapel, 163 Avon-Belden Rd., Avon Lake, Friday, January 3, 2003 from 4:00-8:00 pm. Funeral services will be at the Funeral Home Saturday at 11:00 am. Fr. James H. Beatty of Holy Spirit Catholic Church will officiate. Interment will be private in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, OH.
