John J. Luca, 93, US Steel Laboratory Supervisor

John J. Luca, 93, of Lorain, died Thursday, December 26, 2002, in the emergency room at Community Health Partners Hospital & Surgical Center in Lorain after a sudden illness.

He was born November 12, 1909 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident. He was a 1928 graduate of Lorain High School.

Mr. Luca worked at US Steel in Lorain as a metallurgical technician and then as a laboratory supervisor. He retired in 1972 after 42 years. He previously worked at Western Automatic in Elyria.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain, St. John/Holy Trinity Lodge Branch #228 and the American Slovak Club. He enjoyed gardening and repair projects.

He is survived by his daughter Marsha Milovich of Lorain, son David Luca of Rochester, New York, 3 grandchildren, sisters Helen Zelina of Lorain and Elizabeth Wisniewski of Lorain.

He was preceded in death by his wife Christine (nee Rigda) on January 10, 2002, parents, Andrew A. Luca and Anna M. (nee Marek), brother Andrew Luca and sisters Margaret McManus and Anna Dzambik.

Friends may call Sunday, December 29, 2002 from 5-8 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain where funeral services will be held Monday, at 10:00 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church, 2428 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. The Rev. David Novak, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
