Walter John Truszak, 77, Electrician

Walter John Truszak, 77 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away December 25, 2002 at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky following a lengthy illness.

He was born April 10, 1925 in Lorain. He was raised in Lorain and then South Amherst moving back to Lorain in 1948. He lived in Amherst since 1959. He had been a resident at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky for the past 8 years.

Walter was a member of the I.B.E.W. Local 129 for 35 years, working as an electrician retiring in 1987. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Amherst. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a member of the Nights of Columbus and the Sandusky American Legion. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, Ham Radio, woodworking and carpentry building the home that he and his wife lived in.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Hattie (nee Wichrowski) Truszak; his daughter Renee Neal of Amherst, 1 granddaughter, his brother Stanley Truszak of Garden City, NY; sisters, Celia Bober of North Ridgeville and Mary Shairba of Lorain.

He was preceded in death by his sisters Helen Sivinski and Anna Truszak; several nieces and nephews; and his parents.

Friends may call Friday, December 27, 2002 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Avenue, Amherst. Final Prayers will be held Saturday at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Funeral services will follow at 10:00 a.m. from St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst. The Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard will conduct full military honors. The Rev. Father Lawrence Martello, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Amherst.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Ohio Veterans Home, 3416 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, Ohio 44870.
