Therese Amato, 86, Proprietor - Therese's Dress Shop
Therese Amato (nee Catanzarite), age 88, of Lorain, died Wednesday, December 25, 2002 at Akron City Hospital following a brief illness.Mrs. Amato was born March 31, 1914 in Lorain and had been a life-long resident of the city.
She graduated from Lorain High School and was employed as a sales associate in the cosmetics department at Halle Brothers Department Store in downtown Cleveland from 1949 to 1957. She had previously been employed by Weitz Brothers Clothing Company (Lorain), as well servicing as the proprietor of her own entity - Therese's Dress Shop.
She was a long time parishioner of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain and had also served as a volunteer for the former Lorain Community Hospital for more than 35 y ears. Much of her volunteer activity revolved around designing numerous crafts that were used as fundraising items at the hospital's annual craft bazaar. She was an avid reader who also enjoyed working crossword puzzles.
She was a long-standing member of the Gramzelles, a Lorain based social club.
Mrs. Amato is survived by sons: Jerry Fire residing in Palm Desert, California, Donald Amato of North Royalton, and Ralph Amato of Laughlin, Nevada, daughter: Linda George (nee Fire) of Lorain, 10 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dominic in 1991, by her parents: Severio "Sam" Catanzarite and Anna (nee Carrieri) Catanzarite, and brothers: Jules, Anthony, and James.
Visitation will be Friday, December 27, 2002 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday beginning at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by her funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. in the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain. The Reverend Kenneth Wolnowski, pastor of the Church of St. Peter will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
The family suggests memorials in her memory to either the St. Peter Parish Endowment Fund, 3501 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain, Ohio 44053 or to the American Heart Association, 1689 East 115th Street, Cleveland, Ohio 44106-3988.
