Myrtle E. Mathes, 88, Enjoyed sewing, quilting and crocheting
Myrtle E. Mathes (nee Williams), 88 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2002 at Kingston of Vermilion, following a brief illness.She was born January 7, 1914 in Amherst where she was raised and graduating from Central School. She was a lifetime resident of Amherst with 47 years living on Crooked Creek Farm.
Myrtle was a Housewife and mother. She was a den mother, Girl Scout Leader and band booster member. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and crocheting.
Survivors include her son, Harold "Butch" Mathes, Jr. of Florida; her daughter, Carol McDonald of Amherst and Kathleen Beam of Amherst; 12 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years Harold Charles Mathes in 1982; her daughter Nony Pavlov in 1999; an infant brother and her parents Harry and Maude (nee Beers) Williams.
Friends may call Sunday from 2-4 and the Hemple Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. from the funeral home. The Rev. Lee Anderson, pastor of Riverside Church, Cleveland will officiate. Burial will be in Crownhill Cemetery.
