Desiderio Merlo Camacho, 93 of Lorain, died on Thursday, December 26, 2002 in Lorain, OH following a brief illness. Mr. Camacho was born on September 18, 1909 in Guayanilla, Puerto Rico and has resided in Lorain for the past 13 years.While living in Puerto Rico he was a Poll worker with the Popular Party and was very active in local Puerto Rican politics. After moving to the US, he enjoyed keeping abreast of political activities both in the US and in Puerto Rico. He enjoyed talking about political issues of the day. He was retired in the early 1970's from Corco. He was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel.
Mr. Camacho is survived by four daughters all of Lorain; Doris Quiroz, Rose "Cuqui" Rosado, Lydia Wyatt, and Norma Mulero. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, one stepdaughter, Elizabeth Camacho also of Lorain, one sister; Concepoion Camacho of Guayanilla, Puerto Rico. He is preceded in death by his father Jose Camacho, and his mother Attagracia Echevarria, a brother Santiago Camacho and two great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain on Sunday, December 29, 2002 from 7-9 pm. A Wake service will be held at 8:00 pm with Rev. Mr. Tony DeGracia, leading prayers.
Funeral services will be held on December 30, 2002 at 10:15 am in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Ave., Lorain with Rev. William Thaden, pastor officiating. Desiderio M. Camacho will be buried at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain, OH.
The family suggests that memorials may be made to New Life Hospice, 5255 N. Abbe Road, Elyria, Ohio, 44035 in his memory.
