Ruth M. Knapp, 74, of Avon Lake, formerly of Lakewood, passed away, Thursday, December 19, 2002 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Knapp was born March 27, 1928 in Cleveland and has lived in Avon Lake for the past 51 years.Mrs. Knapp had worked for a time for the Ohio Bell Company, Cleveland as a Business Office Manager. She also worked for Center Sales, Avon Lake as a bookkeeper. She was a graduate of John Marshall High School, Cleveland and had attended Cleveland University. She was a member of the Avon Lake United Church of Christ and the Church's Ladies Group. She volunteered at the Avon Lake Library Shop, the Peter Miller House and the Good Neighbor Thrift Shop. She was active in the John Marshall Alumni Group. Mrs. Knapp enjoyed gardening, spending time learning and using computers for household record keeping, and camping with the family.
Mrs. Knapp is survived by her husband, David M., whom she married March 13,1948. Other survivors include children, Kathryn R. Laxton of Priddis, Alberta, Canada, Kenneth D. of Lutz FL, and Susan L. Knapp of Avon Lake, and Richard F. of Marshall, North Carolina. She is also survived by a brother Russell Hobart of Jensen Beach, FL. She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Viola (nee Hitzler) Hobart.
Friends may call at the Busch-Burmeister Family Chapel, 163 Avon-Belden Rd., Avon Lake from 2:00-4:00 pm Sunday and on Monday at the Avon Lake United Church of Christ, 32801 Electric Blvd., Avon Lake, from 12:00-1:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held in the Church at 1:00 pm. Rev. Kelly Peters of the church will officiate. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, North Olmsted.
