Max E. Houston, 68, Arrangements Pending
Max E. Houston, age 68, of Eaton Township, passed away unexpectedly in Elyria Memorial Hospital R.M.C after a short illness. He was born Friday July 27, 1934 in Crossville Tennessee, living in Eaton Township for over 60 years.He was a 50-year member of North Eaton Christian Church (Disciples). Mr. Houston was a member of the Ohio Farm Bureau, Lagrange Engine Club, and former member of Eaton Fire Department and Zoning Board. He was formerly employed by Ohio Operating Engineers Local #18. He also operated heavy machinery for several local contractors, before retiring in 1990 after 30 years. Mr. Houston was Co-Owner of Houston & Sons Farms in Eaton Township. He was a 1953 graduate of Eaton High School where he was an avid basketball player. He continued playing basketball during the 1950 and 60's. His hobbies included restoring old tractors and showing them at area engine shows and the Lorain County Fair. He collected John Deere precision model tractors and other John Deere memorabilia. He also enjoyed his extensive collection of old matchbox cars. Mr. Houston supported the Junior Fair Livestock auction at the fair and enjoyed farming and raising sheep. He also enjoyed traveling, cooking and his daily coffee breaks with his friends at Jenny's Cafe. He frequented various Flea markets, antique shows and toy shows. An avid hunter, Mr. Houston had hunted in Wyoming, Colorado, Montana, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Tennessee and Ohio. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grand children.
He is survived by his wife Margery (nee Grills) married 48 Years; one daughter Sherry Wilson of Eaton Township, Ohio, two sons: Randy and David Houston of Eaton Township, Ohio; three grandchildren, three great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; one sister, Ethel Burden of Elyria, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents Brown and Vella Houston; brothers Powell, Dwain and Billy Houston.
Friends may call in the Blackburn Funeral Home, 1021 Main St. Grafton, Thursday December 19, 2002 from 2:00 -4:00 pm and 7:00-9:00 pm with funeral services being held Friday December 20, 2002 in North Eaton Christian Church (Disciples) 35895 Royalton Road at 11:00 am with Dr. Paul Durbin officiating. Burial will be in Butternut Ridge Cemetery, Eaton Township. Family suggest memorials be made to the North Eaton Christian Church Memorial Fund.
