Harold Russell Lau, 91, WWII Veteran
Harold Russell Lau, 91 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Monday, December 16, 2002 at New Life Hospice Residential Center in Lorain following a brief illness. He was born April 21, 1911 in Amherst. He has been a lifetime resident of Amherst and since the age of two has lived in the house his father built.Harold served in the US Army during World War II. He was employed by the City of Amherst where he managed the city cemeteries and worked at the Amherst Power Plant. He was a lifetime member and baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Amherst. He was also a member of the Amherst American Legion Post #118 and the Lorain D.A.V. Louis Paul Proy Disabled American Veterans #20.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Helen (nee Allgood) Lau; his sons, John W. Lau of Norco, California and Robert A. Lau of Dublin, Ohio; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Rudolph and Anna Christina (nee Gotro) Lau; and by his sister Erma Leimbach.
Friends may call Thursday from 11:00 am to the time of the funeral service with the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard at 12:00 pm from the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. The Rev. Gary D. Bernath, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Amherst, will officiate. Burial will be in Crownhill Cemetery, Amherst.
