Gregory A. White, 56, U.S. Steel Retiree, and U.S. Army Veteran

Gregory A. White, age 56, of Lorain, died early Saturday December 14, 2002 at the University Hospitals of Cleveland following a brief illness. He was born at Sandusky Memorial Hospital on November 13, 1946 and grew up in Berlin Heights where he worked on his family's farm throughout his childhood. He had been a resident of Lorain since 1967.

He was a graduate of Berlin Local High School where he was a member of the Future Farmers of American and a participant of both varsity basketball and track. He was a four-year veteran of the United States Army where he served as a Specialist 4 in the Medical Corps.

He was employed as a maintenance foreman for U.S. Steel's Lorain Works retiring in 1999 after 30 years of service; his employment with U.S. Steel took him to job assignments in Sweden, Spain, and Japan. For the past two years he has served as a consultant for ADI Machining, Inc.

A parishioner of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain, his hobbies included motorcycles, gardening, maintaining his yard, and spending time with his family.

Mr. White is survived by his wife of 34 years; Carol (nee Costello), sons; Gregory J. and Michael A. White both of Lorain; daughters; Kimberly A. White of Elyria and Melissa M. White of Lorain; granddaughter Marissa White; mother Kathleen White (nee Smith), brothers; Gordon White of Michigan, Jeff White of Berlin Heights; and sister Luella Thatcher of Monroeville. He was preceded in death by his father Homer White.

Friends may call Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain, OH where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:00 am. The Reverend Kenneth Wolnowski, pastor of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Resurrection Mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery Lorain, OH.
