Gary P. Green, 60, Sheffield Lake City Council President

Gary P. Green, age 60 of Sheffield Lake, died on Monday, December 9, 2002 at Community Health Partners, West following a sudden illness.

He was born on November 19, 1942 in Jackson County, Kentucky. He has lived in this area since 1966.

Mr. Green served in the US Army from 1964 until 1966 during the Vietnam War. He received the Vietnam Service Medal and the Expert Rifle Badge.

He worked as the receiving manager in the Shipping and Receiving department at Poly One in Avon Lake for the past 36 years. For the past 2 years, Mr. Green had been serving as president on the Sheffield Lake City Council, and had been on council for the past 10 years.

He attended First Baptist Church, Sheffield Lake. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post 8686, Sheffield Lake. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Sharon (nee Foreman); 2 sons, Shannon P. of Lorain, and Jarod W. of Sheffield Lake; 2 grandchildren; 1 brother Ova Green of Vermilion, and a sister Phyllis Stapleton of Louisville, KY.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Mae (nee Castle) Green and his brother Ray Green.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 11, 2002 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain where funeral mass will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2002 at 12:00 Noon. Rev. Gregg Varndell, pastor of First Baptist Church, Sheffield Lake, will officiate.

Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon. The Veterans of Foreign War Post 451 of Lorain will conduct military honors.
