William J. Bobek, 71, Coil Winder

William J. Bobek, age 71, of Lorain, died Tuesday, December 10, 2002 in Hospice House at the Hospice of the Western Reserve, Cleveland following a brief illness.

Mr. Bobek was born in Lorain on November 1, 1931 and had been a life-long resident of the city. He attended St. Joseph Parochial Elementary School in Lorain and went on to graduate from Lorain High School as a member of the class 1949-B. While at Lorain High, he enjoyed participating in inter-league scholastic football and basketball. Following his high school graduation, he attended classes at Lorain County Community College where he completed courses in mechanical engineering and drafting.

He was a post World War II Veteran of the United States Air Force where he achieved the rank of sergeant. He saw service in Africa, Spain, and Germany. He was a life-member of the Mullen-Murray Post #451 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Lorain.

Mr. Bobek was employed as a coil winder for the Marconi Corporation (formerly Lorain Products) in Lorain for 35 years retiring in 1996. He had previously been employed as an inspector at the General Industries Corporation of Elyria for eleven years.

He was an avid fan of both the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Ethel (nee Petroff), a son: Jeffrey W. Bobek and daughter-in-law Kim Klein both of Mayfield Heights, daughter: Debra A. Jeffreys and her husband John of Amherst, two grandchildren: Ryan and Katlyn Jeffreys and a brother: Donald Bobek of Lorain.

He was preceded in death by his parents: William and Margaruete (nee Dobosy) Bobek and a brother: Richard.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 12, 2002 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Friday, December 13th beginning a 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by his funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain. The Reverend Kenneth Wolnowski, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, where military honors will be conducted by officers and members of V.F.W. Post #451.

The family suggests memorials in his memory to either the St. Peter Parish Endowment Fund, 3501 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain, Ohio 44053 or to the Hospice of the Western Reserve, 300 East 185th Street, Cleveland, Ohio 44119.
