Richard C. Doerr, 78, of Sheffield Lake, passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2002, at Community Health Partners Hospital & Surgical Center, Lorain following a lengthy illness.He was born April 14, 1924 in Grand Rapids, Michigan and moved to Sheffield Lake twelve years ago from Avon Lake where he resided for over forty years.
Dick was a graduate of Lakewood High School and served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific during World War II. He also served in the National Guard for four years. Before retiring he was employed as a cigar salesman and had also worked for the Avon Lake Water Department. He was an active member of the Sheffield Lake United Church of Christ, was a past commander of the American Legion Post 211, Avon Lake, and helped with Boy Scout Troops for over thirty years. He enjoyed woodworking and making birdhouses.
Mr. Doerr is survived by his wife of sixteen years, Irene (nee Smith); a daughter, Carole Kuehn (Dennis) of Elyria; two sons, Ron of Palm Springs, California and Roger (Kathy) of Avon Lake; three step-daughters, Marilee Moss of Florida; Janet Brown of Shelby; Ohio, and Susan Anderson of Indiana; a step-son, James Moss of Ohio; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a brother Howard (Eunice) of Lakewood. Mr. Doerr was preceded in death by a son, Paul, his parents, Fred H. and Ellen (nee Steffen) Doerr, and a brother, Fred Jr. "Gordon."
A memorial service will be held at the Sheffield Lake United church of Christ, 603 Sunset Ave., Sheffield Lake, Saturday, December 14, at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Robert Reich, pastor, will officiate. Cremation handled by Busch Cremator. Memorials may be forwarded to the Sheffield Lake Church of Christ, 603 Sunset Ave., Sheffield Lake, OH 44054.
