Mary Grendow, 101, Member of St. Joseph Church's Altar & Rosary Society

Mary Grendow (nee Fogel), 101 years of age, and a resident of Norwalk, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2002 at Fisher-Titus Medical Center, Norwalk of old age.

She was born September 22, 1901 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania where she lived till age three. She resided in Lorain till 1944 when she moved to Amherst. She has been a resident of Norwalk since 1992.

She was employed by Thew Shovel in Lorain for 38 years retiring in 1959 as an executive secretary. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Amherst where she was active in the Altar & Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Amherst Historical Society, enjoyed playing bridge, traveling, crocheting, and visiting friends and family.

Survivors include her son Carl. L. Grendow of St. Petersburg, Florida; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and numerous grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years Carl E. Grendow in 1965; by her parents Louis and Anna Fogel; by her brother Lawrence Grendow; and by her sisters Rose Mlinac, Julia Borthwick, and Agnes Feeley.

Friends may call Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. from St. Joseph Catholic Church; 200 St. Joseph Dr., Amherst with the Rev. Fr. Lawrence Martello, pastor officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the St. Joseph Catholic Church; 200 St. Joseph Dr., Amherst 44001 or the charity of the donor's choice.
