Earl C. Boyd, 82, Recipient of three Bronze Stars for Valor, Good Conduct, and WWII Victory Medals.

Earl C. Boyd, age 82, of Lorain, died Friday November 29, 2002 in the Intensive Care Unit of Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center following an extended illness. Mr. Boyd was born January 23, 1920 in Sewellsville, Ohio and had been a resident of Lorain since 1947.

He was a graduate of Barnesville High School and went on to attend Bliss College in Columbus, Ohio where he studied business. He was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran serving with the Company B in the 756th Railway Shop Battalion. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge as well as conflicts throughout the Rhineland, the Ardennes, and Central Europe. He was the recipient of the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with three Bronze Stars for Valor as well as the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.

He was employed for forty-two years as a trainman for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad.

He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Lorain. For the past forty-six years he had also been an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous. Additional memberships included Amvets Post # 47 of Lorain, as well as the National Association of Railroad Retirees.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years: Helen (nee Turner), son: William Boyd and his wife Patricia Chesaning, Michigan, son Robert Boyd and his wife Shelby of Marietta, Georgia, daughter: Betty Robbins and her husband Barry of Lorain, grandchildren: Patricia Spataro, Lisa Boyd, David Boyd, Nichole Boyd, and Stephanie Boyd, great grandchildren: Nathan Krause, Michael Spataro, Melissa Spataro, and Madison Spataro, as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Walter and Emma (nee Mumma) Boyd, and by a brother: Paul R. Boyd.

Friends may call Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel; 3224 Broadway, Lorain where members of the Alcoholics Anonymous will conduct a memorial service at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. in the Christ United Methodist Church; 3015 Meister Road Lorain, with the Reverend John Gross, pastor of the church officiating. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township where Amvets Post # 47 of Lorain will conduct full military honors.

The family suggests memorials in Mr. Boyd's memory go to either Christ United Methodist Church; 3015 Meister Road, Lorain Ohio 44053 or to the Alcoholics Anonymous.
