Edward Hospodar, 87, Welder
Edward Hospodar, age 87, of Lorain, died Thursday, November 28, 2002 in the critical care unit of Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center after being stricken with an apparent heart attack. His wife, Margaret (nee Rebman), died fourteen hours earlier at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph.Mr. Hospodar was born in Lorain on February 1, 1915 and had been a life-long resident of the city. He was employed as a welder for U.S. Steel's Lorain Works retiring in 1975 following 40 years of service with the company.
A World War II US Army Veteran, Mr. Hospodar served as a Private First Class with the 37th Engineers Regiment in Europe. He was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with five Bronze Stars, the World War II Victory Medal and he Good Conduct Medal. He saw extensive action in Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland, the Ardennes, and Central Europe.
An active Parishioner of St. Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church in Lorain, he was a member of Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 of the Disabled American Veterans and United Steelworkers Local #1104.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and walking.
He is survived by a sister, Helen Sandor of Lorain, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.
Graveside services will be Saturday, December 7, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. in Calvary Cemetery, 555 North Ridge Road, Lorain. The Rev. James Batcha, pastor of St. Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church will officiate. Members and officers of Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 of the Disabled American veterans will conduct full military honors.
