James Russell Buckingham, 88, Dairy & Crop Farmer
James Russell Buckingham age 88 of Grafton Twp. passed away Monday, November 25, 2002, morning in Elyria United Methodist Village after a long illness.He was born Monday, December 22, 1913 in Grafton and lived in the Lorain/Medina county area all his life.
He is a member of the Litchfield Assembly of God for many years where he was a church Deacon & board member.
Mr. Buckingham was a dairy & crop farmer for many years and was also employed by Columbia Gas for 22 years before
retiring in January of 1977. In earlier years he also worked for the Sunshine Biscuit Co. in Grafton. He was a member of the Old Glory Grange in Lagrange where he served as head master. Jim's love for meeting people lead him to volunteer work at E.M.H. & and a greeter at E.S.T Bank in Grafton, usually telling you where to park.
He enjoyed gardening, steam engines& trains, and spending time with his grand children. He also enjoyed making maple syrup.
He is survived by his wife Florence married 66 years, 2 Daughters Carol Strouse of Westfield Center, Ohio, Nancy Means of Elyria, Ohio, 3 Sisters: Emily Buga of Lagrange, Ohio, Ruth Hildebrandt of Lagrange, Ohio, Betty Box of Spencer, Ohio, 2 Brothers: Richard Buckingham of Grafton, Ohio, Charles Buckingham of Elyria, Ohio.
He is proceeded in death by his parents William & Goldie Buckingham, 1 Brother Gerald, 1 sister Geraldine Yates, and a grand child Sharon Brown.
Friends may call in the Blackburn Funeral Home 1021 Main St. Grafton Friday from 2-4 & 7-9pm with funeral services Saturday in the funeral home at 10:30 am with Rev. Mark Hartshorn pastor of Litchfield Assembly of God. Burial will be in River Rd. Cemetery Lagrange Twp.
