Iris Bertha Torres, 71, Member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain
Iris Bertha Torres, (nee Castro), 71, of Lorain, died Saturday, November 23, 2002 at St. Luke Roosevelt Hospital, Manhattan, New York, following a short illness.
Born January 7, 1931 in Yauco, Puerto Rico, she came to Lorain in 1957. She was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain, and was an avid bingo player.
Surviving are her sons, Luis Quinones, of Orlando, FL, James Quinones, of Jacksonville, FL, William Quinones, of Cleveland, Victor Cotto, of Cleveland, Anselmo Torres, Jr., of Atlanta, GA, Ruben Torres, of Lorain, daughters Elsa Quinones, of Lorain, Pauline Santiago, of Lorain, Nelida Montalvo, of Richmond, VA, Victoria Rosas, of Parma, Daisy Maldonado, of Lorain, and Ruth Ann Torres, of New York, NY, 29 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren, brothers, Julio A. Castro Jr., of Cleveland, Samuel Castro, of Yauco Puerto Rico, Julio Caesar Castro, of Cleveland, Pedro Juan Castro, of Cleveland, Jose Angel Castro, of Minneapolis MN, Francisco Castro, of North Royalton, OH, Richard Cortez, of New York, NY, and Norberto Cortez, of New York, NY, sisters Awilda Gonzalez, of Daytona Beach, FL, Gladys Castro, of Cleveland, Silvia Quinones, of Houston, TX, Miriam Castor, of Chicago, IL, Nalin Castro, of Cleveland, Seraida Castro, of Cleveland, and Gloria Cortez, of Brooklyn, NY.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Julio Castro, and Esmerelda (nee Irizarry) Castro, brothers, Antonia Cortez and Saul Cortez, a grandson, Robert Torres, in 1988.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 26th, from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 27th at 8:45 a.m. in the funeral home followed by Liturgy of the Word at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Deacon Tony DeGracia, of Sacred Heart Chapel, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
