Peter C. Bender, 77, Brcklayer and Groundskeeper
Peter C. Bender, 77 of Avon, passed away Saturday, November 16, 2002 at his home.He was born September 16, 1925 in Yonkers, New York and moved to Avon from Cleveland 47 years ago.
During World War II, he served in Europe in the Army in the 1st Engineer Battalion. He was employed as a bricklayer for Cleveland Local #5 and Elyria Local #34 for 42 years and retired from Avon Oaks Country Club, where he was a groundskeeper for six years. Peter was a life member of V.F.W. Post 7035, Avon; and the American Legion Post 211, Avon Lake.
He enjoyed gardening, landscaping and animals.
Mr. Bender is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marian (nee Walter); two sons, Charles of Copley and Christopher of Westlake; three daughters, Andrea Peterson of Amherst, Karen Loflin of Carlisle Township and Sally Miller of Amherst. Seven grandchildren and one step-grandson and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernst and Katherine (nee Chaffee) Bender.
Private family memorial services will be held at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon where V.F.W. Post 9871 will conduct military honors.
Cremation by Busch Crematory.
