Mary Profant, 89, Enjoyed working in her yard, gardening and crocheting
Mary Profant (nee Matesic), age 89, of Amherst and previous longtime resident of Lorain, died Friday November 15, 2002 at her residence following a brief illness. She was born January 26, 1913 in Lorain and had been a resident of the city for most of her life.Mrs. Profant attended the Lorain Public Schools and had formerly been employed as an assembler for General Motors Corporation's Fisher Guide Division in Elyria and later by the American Croatian Club of Lorain; she retired in 1977.
She had been a parishioner of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township since 1995 where she was also a member of the church's Altar & Rosary Society. She had previously been a member of St. Vitus Croatian Catholic Church in Lorain.
Mrs. Profant was an accomplished bowler and was inducted into the Lorain Women's Bowling Association Hall of Fame as a Star of Yesteryear during ceremonies conducted in 1991. She was also an inductee of the 600 Bowling Club of the Women's International Bowling Association, Inc. Additional hobbies and interests include working in her yard, gardening, and crocheting.
She was a member of St. Ann's Auxiliary #287, a life member of the American Slovak Club, as well as a life member of the American Croatian Club.
She is survived by her daughter: Donna Gorski of Amherst, a son: Don Michael Profant of Charlotte, North Carolina, 3 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Michael in 1977, by her parents: Gasper an Dora (nee Sudetic) Matesic, by a brother: Rudolph in 1996, and by a sister: Elizabeth Matesic in 1999.
Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel - 3224 Broadway - Lorain where the Altar & Rosary Society of St. Vincent de Paul Church will recite the rosary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Tuesday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church - 41295 North Ridge Road - Elyria Township. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery - Lorain.
