James F. Carrier, 87, Enjoyed sports, especially baseball and football, ballroom dancing and gardening

James F. Carrier, 87, of Lorain, died Thursday November 7, 2002 in the critical care unit at Community Health Partners Hospital & Surgical Center in Lorain after a short illness.

He was born October 21, 1915 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

During his high school years he worked part-time at the cinema theaters, Cozy, Dreamland and the Elvira. In the summer months of high school he attended the Citizens Military Training Camps at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana.

Mr. Carrier worked at US Steel in Lorain as a metallurgist for 31 years. He also worked for the A&P Grocery for 24 years before retiring in 1972.

He was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain, a past member of USWA Local #1104, a past member of the USWA Local #2354 and a member of RCIA (UFCW) Local #880.

He enjoyed sports, especially baseball and football, ballroom dancing and gardening.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Jennie (nee Amato); daughters Mary Jane Broglio of Lorain and Paulette Schneider of Euclid; son James R. Carrier of Avon Lake; two granddaughters and sister Angeline Palermo of Lorain. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank & Marie (nee Cordona) Carrier and brothers John Carrier and Paschal Carire.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 2-6 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain where funeral services will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. A funeral mass will follow on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3601 Oberlin Ave., Lorain, with the Rev. Kenneth Wolnowski, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
